Milestone - Baptism

Romans 8: 12-14 says, "Brothers and sisters, we have a duty. Our duty is not to live under the power of sin. If you live under the power of sin, you will die. But by the Spirit’s power you can put to death the sins you commit. Then you will live. Those who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God."

A child’s value systems start to form around Grade 3. This means that kids will decide what is important to them and the rules they are going to live by before they enter Middle School. In Middle and High school, these values are tested and questioned as they develop higher-level thinking and tend to follow their peers more.

Because the Elementary and Middle School years are pivotal in how your child will live the rest of their lives, teaching them to be loving, caring, and servant-minded couldn’t be more important! Naturally, many kids will want to follow Jesus during these years.

When talking with kids, I’ve learned there are three things I look for in order to see if a student is ready to follow Jesus:

1. Do they know who Jesus is and what he has done?
2. Do they understand what sin is and why it’s a problem?
3. Do they understand this is a decision for a lifetime?

If your child understands all of those things, then they are probably ready for baptism. We would encourage you to attend the Kids Foundations Class, offered at 9:00 am, 4-5 times per year. Here your child will learn more about baptism and following Jesus. They will also have the opportunity to ask any questions they may have.
