December 3, 2019
Giving Tuesday is a movement started in 2012 to create an international day of charitable giving at the beginning of the Christmas season. It falls on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, which this year is December 3.
In this season of thankfulness and generosity, Christ’s Church is using Giving Tuesday to support Hunger 2 Help, an initiative making a difference in the Mason and Kings school districts.
For some students, school lunch may be the only meal they will eat that day, and Hunger 2 Help wants to ensure they get that meal.
Did you know that in the state of Ohio, 22% of students live in households that experience limited or uncertain availability of safe, nutritious food? That’s a big number and a big problem, because childhood hunger deprives a kid of more than just food. Hungry kids aren’t getting the energy they need to learn and grow. Studies show these kids are more likely to repeat a grade in elementary school, experience developmental impairments in areas like language and motor skills and have more social and behavior problems. Hunger starves a kid’s chance at a bright future.
Hunger 2 Help says, “not on our watch” and “not in our community.”
- A gift of $25 will provide school lunches for a child for 2 weeks.
- A gift of $50 will feed a child for a month.
- A gift of $300 will take care of one child’s lunches for the remainder of the school year.
Consider a one-time gift this Giving Tuesday as we make a difference in our community, one lunch table at a time.
